Release Notes — Week of October 12 to October 19, 2026
Agent Swarm 2.0 removes PM2, services and artifacts, the Chat SDK channel reaches four platforms, and scripts gain sandboxed file, shell and SQL access across 146 commits and seven releases.
Seven releases shipped this week — v1.171.1, v1.172.0, v1.173.0, then 2.0.0 through 2.3.0 — across 146 merged commits. The core got smaller while the surface got wider: 2.0 takes out three subsystems, and chat channels, model gateways and a real script runtime go in.
Breaking Changes
Self-hosters: act before the next deploy. 2.0.0 changes the worker image, the entrypoint and the MCP tool surface.
Agent Swarm 2.0 removes PM2, the service registry and artifacts
#2147 deletes PM2 process management, the service registry (services page, use-services hooks, service MCP tools) and the artifacts feature. The worker image and entrypoint no longer start PM2, and ecosystem.config.cjs is gone. Long-running work now lives in pages, apps and scripts.
- Replace PM2-supervised processes with scripts or scheduled tasks.
- Publish UIs as pages or apps instead of artifacts.
- Remove service and artifact tool calls from prompts, skills and scripts.
- Rebuild from the new
Dockerfile.worker; see the deployment guide.
Config rows opt in to env export
#2156 adds a per-row exportToEnv flag, so a config value reaches agent env only when its row says so. Audit every value your agents read from process.env and check it is marked for export.
Heartbeat hygiene is on by default
#2226 ships heartbeat hygiene and the built-in Jev checklist gate (#2182) enabled. If you relied on the previous heartbeat cadence, review the gate before deploying a large fleet on it.
Highlights
One channel for four chat platforms
#2125 adds the Chat SDK channel: one adapter for Telegram, Slack, Teams and Discord, configured from the Integrations page, with Helm and compose examples. The same agent answers in a Telegram group and a Teams channel without a second integration. Docs: chat-sdk.
Scripts get a guarded runtime with real I/O
Two changes turn scripts from pure compute into a safe working surface. #2114 puts scripts behind a QuickJS egress guard, so a script reaches only the hosts you allow and credentials are injected at egress instead of entering script memory. #2198 and #2139 add ctx.fs, ctx.sh and SQL script connections: read and write agent-fs, run shell over it, and query registered SQL databases. Docs: scripts runtime.
More models, routed and profiled
- #2176 adds the Vercel AI Gateway (Token Pass): the full chat model catalog behind one fixed endpoint.
- #2172 adds NaN and Helmcode as OpenAI-compatible providers on pi and opencode, and #2189 routes registry models such as
nan/*to their own endpoint from raw-llm workflow nodes. - #2163 resolves model profiles at claim time: you name a profile, and the concrete model and effort are chosen when a worker claims the task. #2158 records the effort a task actually ran at, so cost reporting and re-runs stop drifting.
Azure DevOps Boards
#2119 adds work-item triggers and tracker sync. #2169 adds opt-in state transitions and workflow triggers on work-item events. Docs: azure-devops.
Improvements
- Models and harnesses — OpenCode 2.0 runs in-process (#2112); the system prompt stays byte-identical across an agent's sessions for prompt caching (#2171); Sonnet 5.5 cache reads are priced at $0.10 per million and Claude thinking tokens are counted (#2165); OpenRouter bills its reported
usage.cost(#2126); Devin joins the harness picker (#2157); pi 1.3.0 lands (#2214). - Scripts — QuickJS parity shims plus a compat lint (#2115);
zod/miniimports (#2111). - Tasks, inbox and heartbeat — A movable inbox read cursor, bulk inbox state and safer task key moves (#2243); unaccepted steers carry over to successor tasks (#2217); heartbeat failures leave receipts (#2232).
- Dashboard and apps — Session turns render in a ported shadcn Trace view (#2162); mermaid diagrams and frontmatter tables render in Comb (#2160); the app catalog gains a shared Table layer, icons, searchable multi Select and a status, feedback and motion set (#2130, #2131, #2132); extensions show as cards with a details sheet (#2196) and comms-adherence-gate ships as a catalog template (#2195); secrets dialogs are wider (#2159); install ranking is opt-in publicly (#2248).
- Slack and email — The swarm stays out of external Slack Connect channels (#2143); the completed status glyph is configurable (#2207); AgentMail filters accept full addresses (#2191).
- Skills — qa-loom records narrated QA passes (#2127); email-domain-health ships with its playbook (#2170); code-quality gains a short review format (#2224).
Bug Fixes
- Slack tools that receive a user id now open the bot DM (#2250).
- Long Slack tool messages split at the section limit instead of failing (#2245).
- Defer cards are reused and duplicate watchers rejected (#2136); worker deferred wake cards are suppressed (#2140).
ctx.swarm.config.getreturns the invoking agent's config (#2168); the script SDK respectsPORT(#2166).claudeMdloads once per Claude session (#2123); Claude input stays open while a background task is live (#2218).- pi reports per-call context usage as progress, not compaction (#2183).
- Boot re-runs when
initDbfails after opening (#2175). NODE_ENVreads at runtime in compiled binaries (#2138).- agent-fs uploads keep file metadata (#2220).
- MCP comms preferences merge per key instead of overwriting (#2222).
- The scheduler honours extension hooks for deferred ceilings (#2194).
- GitHub review state reads with
GITHUB_TOKENwhen no App installation exists (#2107). - Page loads read
MAX(version)instead of every snapshot (#2164); keys typed in the page feedback overlay stay away from page scripts (#2187). CONTEXT_MODE_DISABLEDturns the context-mode plugin off (#2227).- The API keys rate-limit column stops triggering the AG Grid warning (#2241).
- Responsive fixes: grid columns hide when narrow, approvals use a table by width, the workflow canvas and inspector stay in the viewport, settings rails start at
lg(#2236, #2237, #2238, #2239, #2242).
